Is this image proof the US Air Force has enlisted Batman? Er, no. Picture: Google Maps
Holy fighter jets.
The top secret location of the Batcave can be revealed - and it’s not under Wayne Manor.
A larger-than-life Batman symbol was discovered on the roof of a US Air Force base in Japan - thanks to Google Maps.
Web-surfers were first alerted to the Batman symbol by Glotter several weeks ago, fuelling discussions about whether it was a hoax and how it came to be there.
Now military newspaper Stars and Stripes has confirmed that the symbol is real and it marks the home of the US Air Force’s 44th Fighter Squadron’s Kadena Air Base in Okinawa.
Kadena spokesman Ed Gulick said it was unclear who painted it on the roof, but that it was believed to have been done in the 1980s.
“We know it’s been there for years … and is somewhat common for esprit de corps around the Air Force as it gives members of the squadron pride in their unit,” Mr Gulick said.
One commenter on Reddit, who claims he works at the air base, said he had an answer for why the Batman symbol was chosen.
“There are two squadrons of 15’s here on Okinawa, the bats, which sport blue tail flashes, and the cocks, which sport red tail flashes,” papertape wrote.
“I work on that flight line. Didn’t know they had the f***ing batman working for them, though. /jealous.”
And if you were still wondering about Wayne Manor, Gizmodo believes it has found that particular stately superhero residence in Illinois. Check out the pic of Wayne Manor here.
